Meet Tyler Franz, CYT

Tyler Franz, CYT

Tyler Franz

Tyler first experienced yoga some eight years ago, trying his hand in a Bikram Yoga class while on vacation. He was intrigued by the experience as it seemed to go deeper and was more completely inclusive than any purely physical activity he had ever been involved in. Tyler has always been very athletic, a highly talented baseball player as a sought-after pitcher… playing for Kentucky State Champions Bowling Green Purples, and then recruited by the WKU Hilltoppers Baseball program. After a successful stint as pitcher for WKU, he played golf and became very skilled in the game (winning a hole-in-one award plaque at one point!) and also honed his athletic skills in tennis, running, cycling and coaching various baseball teams in the area.

He joined us for classes at Hot Yoga Bowling Green within the first week of opening in January 2007. His drive and determination immediately became evident to HYBG director Tony Bishop, as Tony approached him regarding training for his yoga teacher certification. The rest, as it is said, is history.

Tony Bishop has compared Tyler to the great Tony Sanchez, as he has taken his body to levels most people would have never imagined possible when considering his starting point. With the years of high impact athletics taking their toll, Tyler’s entire body was very tight and unyielding. He has completely turned that around through his practice and teaching of Hot Yoga.

Over the past few years, Tyler has recovered and rehabilitated (with Yoga) four knee surgeries from his old sports injuries, including ACL, Medial, Lateral Meniscus and PCL – and has seen healing and even marked improvement of strength through his yoga practice.

Tyler initially trained in Level 1 YogaFit, and then began training directly with HY Director Tony Bishop to deepen his yoga education. He has assisted in several workshops at Hot Yoga as presenter and assistant trainer, has completed many private training sessions with Tony to personally deepen his knowledge, along with trainings and workshops with Rolf Gates, Rajashree Choudhury, Bikram National Yoga Champion Melissa McMurray of Orlando Bikram Yoga, and studies the works of Bikram Choudhury, Tony Sanchez, Paul Grilley and many other prominent teachers on a regular basis. He is a gifted marketer and public relations diplomat, as his career includes being fulltime account executive for a major pharmaceutical company. He is involved in a wide variety of community events and organizations, and has been a tireless fund raiser and organizer for many, including Habitat for Humanity.

Tyler's ‘gift’ to his yoga students is understanding. He knows how to communicate intention and visualization to his classes, and is a highly-skilled yoga teacher in every respect. He is currently nearing the completion of requirements for RYT registration, and is also nearing 500 hours of yoga teaching experience at Hot Yoga Bowling Green. You can expect to enjoy a very smooth, full yoga experience in Tyler's signature ‘Flow’ classes. He is a member and Deacon of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ, and recognizes the saviour Jesus Christ as his ultimate example and sacrifice for us all.
