Bowling Green, KY
The buzz and rumors have proven to be true in South Central Kentucky. The city of Bowling Green has become only the second area in the state to have its own "Hot Yoga" studio.
Hot Yoga has grown steadily across the United States over the past 30 years, as more people have learned of the great health benefits that this ancient art provides.
"The concept is unique, and yet so basic to our body's natural processes", said Tony Bishop, director and chief instructor at the brand new "Hot Yoga Bowling Green". "We create a clean and filtered, virtually germ-free environment, and then with careful climate control, add proper heat and humidity ratios to open the body's own natural healing and detoxifying abilities. It is totally unlike any other physical experience. Using breath, movement and asana (yogic postures) we strengthen, heal, nurture and flex the body gently from the inside out and vice versa", Bishop explained.
Hot Yoga Bowling Green uses a state-of-the-art Ionic Air Filtration system and fresh air exchange, with clean heat and constant humidity control to ensure the yoga students --- beginner to advanced --- have a class to remember as positive and challenging.
"Almost anyone can do this form of yoga", Bishop continued. "This is Hatha Yoga, a physical form of Raja or "royal" yoga which originally emphasized breathing and calming thoughts --- wonderfully blended with Tantric yoga for helping muscular tone, flexibility and internal health. The room is hot for specific reasons. The sweating during class encourages detoxification through the skin, and the heat allows muscles, ligaments and tendons to become more elastic, and through the Hatha asanas --- every organ and bodily system is stimulated as fresh, oxygenated blood flows to all regions of the anatomy."
Bishop emphasizes breathing throughout the continually changing sequence of postures which are regularly practiced in his regimen. "Breathing is essential to this yoga, as it should be in one's daily life", he explained. "This system is wonderful for all ages and fitness levels, as it improves awareness of breath while it increases lung capacity, improves the resting heart rate for most, and reduces stress tremendously as we learn to breathe through stressful situations every day".
Classes are now being held 6 days per week, with a total of 19 available classes, as Hot Yoga Bowling Green launches its exciting new venture. "If anyone has any concerns, they are welcome to call me anytime, and I can discuss our combination of balance, strength and flexibility postures", Bishop said. "Your primary care physician is always your best guide for safety in any physical activity you may wish to do, so if he or she has given permission to pursue a program, your next step should be to determine that your instructor or trainer is qualified to teach a particular practice, and they should have your safety and well-being first in mind". "Drink plenty of water, breathe always, and have fun as you feel better!"
